Christmas and New Year Sailing

RBSC – NOTE FROM THE COMMODORE – WINTER SAILING

Those of us who enjoy the winter sailing have been having fun out on the water.. We have had   turn outs this year of over twenty boats and some good days with fresh winds blowing down the length of the broad.

This is just a reminder that the club continues to operate through the festive season. Next Sunday the 20th  is for normal winter series racing.

The following Sunday the 27th December is a special one off morning, with a pursuit race starting at 10.30.  The race will last for 72 minutes for the slowest boat with the winner presented with the prestigious silver Bent Vase and prizes for the runners up.

Following the pursuit race we will run a short 30 minute race for the Watson Cup. This is for double handed boats which are to be sailed by the helm only – a bit of fun for the competitors and the spectators !

Solo / Single-handers Training – 18th July

Solo Training Afternoon

Sat 18th July 2pm – Other singlehanders welcome to join in;

particularly for on the water exercises.

Recently I’ve had s request from the Solo fleet to organise a training day; whilst the class association offers these, it’s too late for this year; I’ve never been able to get to one myself and we are rather out of the way!

So in the short term I am willing to offer some of the knowledge I’ve picked up in my 15 years of Solo ownership.

If anyone wants me to look at their boat setup before hand I’ll be around from about 1pm – bring boats to the front lawn.

I intend to spend about half hour talking through boat set up at 2pm, then on the water exercises, mainly tacking and a few practice starts, quite willing to incorporate anyone else’s ideas and be flexible on the afternoon.
