Rollesby Broad Sailing Club

RBSC offers its members sailing on the Norfolk Broads 52 weeks of the year. The Club welcomes new members, whether expert sailors or complete novices, young or old! We have a wide range of dinghy classes including:- Moth, Enterprise, Laser, Mirror, Optimist, Phantom, Topper, Solo, Wayfarer, Wanderer. The club also has a selection of boats available for hire to members.

The Club

Sailing takes place on Rollesby Broad, not accessible by boat from the rest of the broads network, making it a safe and quiet sailing environment; away from the humdrum of the rest of the Broads and hire boat industry. We’ve a large grassed area in front of the clubhouse, ideal for watching activities on the water, relaxing and chatting with friends, having a bite to eat, or even to topping up your tan on hot days when the sun has more power than the wind.

With two interlocking broads to discover, members who do not wish to race can enjoy pottering or cruising around the broads, or sailing down to the Eels Foot Pub for some refreshment. In fact our broads are so peaceful, as they are free from motorised holiday cruiser traffic, that they provide habitats for many interesting species of birds.

Berths are available for dinghies, with the heaviest and most frequently used closest to the water.

The Clubhouse

Our clubhouse overlooks the water at the northern end of the Broad. The ground floor has a soft furnished lounge area, galley, and wet seating area. This area extends back to incorporate male and female toilets, hot showers, and changing areas. Over-spill changing rooms are also available. The Race Officers box sits above the clubhouse allowing a clear view over the broad.

The Fleet

The most popular boats sailed at the club are Wayfarer, Enterprise, Laser,  Moth, Solo, Topper, Stratos and more… The Club owns a number of Toppers, Optimists, Lasers as well as a Wayfarer. All are well maintained and available for hire by members so, no one actually needs to own a boat to take part!

Rescue boats are available to club members at all times, with rescue boat courses laid on during the course of the year.

The Racing

The club holds handicap racing on all Sundays throughout the year and Wednesday Evenings during  the Summer

The Sailing

Sailing is allowed any day of the week on Rollesby Broad between 1st April and 31st October and on Ormesby Little Broad (Eels Foot) from 1st July to 31st October. Thereafter, sailing is allowed on Sundays only and on Rollesby Broad only from the first Sunday in November to the last Sunday in March.

Membership

Subject to the approval of the General Committee, membership is open to anyone who wishes to sail on Rollesby Broad. Sailing is restricted to dinghy sailing only. Membership is also available for the winter season only, at half the annual subscription.
